  • Clam art with ArtVan

Over the past month, KELT’s Environmental Educator, Becky Kolak, has partnered with the ArtVan program to create a slew of artistic creations celebrating clean water for shellfish and marine life. Children from local neighborhoods made Bath Front St. banners (currently on display on Front and Center Streets), a clam costume, and clam puppets, stories, and sculptures.

“The kids displayed such creativity and understanding of how clean water is vital for the environment,” Kolak said, “They designed and painted simple, but powerful images on street banners promoting clean water for marine life. The clam costume is an amazing mash of artful design and the message- ‘Clean Water for Clams!’ The clam themed puppets, stories, and sculptures combined artistic expression with the environmental message that clean water is essential- not only for humans, but for fish, mermaids, and clams!”

Special thanks to the ArtVan program (www.artvanprogram.org) for planning, materials, and enthusiasm! This collaboration was funded by the generous support of the Davenport Trust Fund.
