You made it happen!
A huge thank you to all who participated in #GivingTuesday!
Thanks to the many who donated, we met our goal! We are looking forward to growing more food and getting more kids’ hands dirty in the garden next year.
Since KELT began managing the LOCAL Garden in 2016, we’ve been asked:
Why would the land trust get involved with a community garden?
Growing good food for local people and teaching how to grow a variety of fruits and vegetables is another, hands-on way to connect folks to the land.
We find it just as impactful and wholesome as a walk in the woods.
Maine is the 7th most food insecure state in the nation, and over 15% of Mainers go hungry every year. You can make a difference by supporting KELT’s LOCAL garden which teaches kids about growing food and donates the produce to those in need. In 2017 alone, 584 students visited the garden and over 1,180 pounds of produce were donated to our community.
#GivingTuesday (November 28th 2017) is a global giving movement on the Tuesday after Black Friday and Cyber Monday. By joining with this global day, KELT hopes that we can come together and celebrate the true meaning of the holiday season by giving to make a difference in our community.
