30th Anniversary of the Land for Maine’s Future Program (LMF)

Since 1987, the LMF program has helped to protect more than 600,000 acres of land in Maine.

Most of these special places are open for visitors — offering access to great activities like hiking, fishing, swimming, boating and even ATV riding. Best of all, LMF’s work has been funded by the people of Maine for the past 30 years — which means LMF properties belong to all of us — forever.

Maine voters consistently overwhelmingly approve bonds to purchase lands of significance for recreation and conservation. For over 30 years, LMF has successfully crossed ideologies, party lines and motivations to represent and protect the essence of Maine — yesterday, today and tomorrow.

The Land for Maine’s Future Coalition is celebrating the 30th anniversary of LMF this year, with opportunities for you to explore and engage with many incredible properties protected through this program.

KELT was awarded funds by LMF to protect our signature property, Thorne Head Preserve in Bath, in addition to an agricultural easement, Marsh Field Farm in Bowdoinham.

LMF Passport

The LMF Passport provides recommendations for destinations to explore this summer, making it easy to plan your family outing. As a bonus, passport holders who explore at least three LMF destinations this summer and upload a photo of their completed passport will be awarded a handy “LMF Works for ME” flashlight carabiner. Click here for more information and to request a passport OR pick up your passport at the KELT office in Bath (92 Front Street).

LMF Works for ME Photo Gallery

The LMF Works for ME Photo Gallery offers people who visit LMF destinations the opportunity to share their experiences and see how others are enjoying the more than 150 special places conserved over the past thirty years with support from LMF. Instagram users can post their images to the gallery by using #LMFWorksforME, while Maine residents who take a photo at an LMF destination and upload it directly onto the gallery at www.landformainesfuture.org will be entered into a drawing for a chance to win camping gear donated by L.L. Bean, an overnight stay at a sporting camp in the Maine Woods donated by the Appalachian Mountain Club and other prizes. Click here for guidelines, a complete list of prizes and more information.
