Thursday Trail Workdays at Squam Creek

Calling all trail enthusiasts…We need your help!

Join KELT each Thursday to get our newest preserve ready for public use this summer.

When: Thursdays between June 29 and August 3 at 9am to 12pm

Where: Carl and Barbara Segerstrom Preserve at Squam Creek on Westport Island

The Carl and Barbara Segerstrom Preserve is a unique property with historical features and a splendid view of Squam Creek (a tidal inlet off of the Back River). Following the lead of two dedicated KELT volunteers, we are working to open the preserve to the public later this summer.

Tasks will change weekly, but volunteers can expect to do a combination of the following:

  • Remove brush from the trail corridor
  • Haul material for bridge construction
  • Build bridges
  • Rake the trail surface

KELT will supply needed tools, but volunteers should bring work gloves, water bottles, bug spray, sunscreen, and sturdy footwear. The group will meet every Thursday at the preserve pull-off on West Shore Rd. in Westport Island.

Work days are weather dependent. To tell us you’re coming or to ask questions, contact Becky at bkolak@kennebecestuary.org or at 207-442-8400.

Day-of contacts: Dennis at 207-380-4555 OR Archie at 207-350-1412.
