Unassuming Undergrowth Series

Join KELT to discover the forest floor organisms that often go overlooked. Adults and children 10 years old and older will enjoy learning about these unassuming and intriguing species that are a common sight in the New England wooded landscape.

Cancelled! Woody & Shelf Fungi of Bonyun Preserve

When: Saturday, August 19 at 1:00pm – 2:30pm

Where: Bonyun Preserve on Westport Island

Join Maine Master Naturalist Alan Seamans to discover the world of these often overlooked fungal organisms. Shelf fungi are woody, above-ground, fruiting bodies and Seamans will lead hikers throughout the preserve looking for and identifying common species. Learn the basics about these spore-bearing bracket fungi (did you know the parts we see are called conks?) and their important roles in the forest habitat. Please register by Friday, August 18 at 4:00pm! Ferns of Merrymeeting Fields Preserve

When: Saturday, September 9 at 9:00am – 11:00am

Where: Merrymeeting Fields Preserve in Woolwich

Join Maine Master Naturalist Richard Brown to explore the feathery and fascinating species of ferns found throughout the preserve.

 

Free! These are light rain or shine events. Wear clothing and footwear appropriate for hiking in the woods.
