Families can join KELT to learn to identify the trees of Butler Head Preserve.
The perfect way to spend Earth Day… among the trees!
When: Earth Day, Sunday, April 22 at 1:30pm
Where: Butler Head Preserve in Bath
Co-sponsored by the Bath Community Forestry Committee and led by KELT’s Stewardship Coordinator, Cheri Brunault, kids and adults will learn to identify common trees in the Maine forest. The program is ideal for naturalists 7 years old and older, but all are welcome.
Coniferous or deciduous? Opposite or alternate? Needled or broad leaves? Rough bark or smooth? Rounded buds or pointy? These questions all come in handy when studying a tree to identify it. Brunault will share tips and tricks to name the trees of the forest from towering white pines to spindly striped maple to peeling paper birch. There is no better way to celebrate Earth Day than to spend it learning about the trees that populate our local forests!
Butler Head Preserve is owned by the City of Bath and protected by a conservation easement held by KELT. The Bath Community Forestry Committee maintains the trail network and manages the property. At 141 acres, Butler Head Preserve is forested with shoreline along Merrymeeting Bay and Butler Cove.
This event is free and open to public. This is a light rain or shine event.
Registration is required by April 20 due to the limited class size. Please call 207-442-8400 or use the Google form below to sign-up.
