Provide high quality experiential education to students in schools in the Kennebec Estuary region, bringing the estuary alive for students in our service area.

  • By 2026, complete a KELT Core Curriculum of experiential sessions in and out of the classroom that are aligned with Next Generation Science Standards and are available for local educators to choose from.

  • Deliver KELT educational programs during the school year that bring students outside to our local preserves and on school grounds for hands-on nature learning that is accessible to students and teachers on an annual basis.

  • Incorporate long standing in-classroom sessions like SALTY, into our scaffolded education programs and core curriculum by 2026. Create a curriculum schedule that incorporates Richmond and Dresden schools by 2030.

  • Prioritize new KELT educational school programs on climate change, including food security and the value of the estuary for coastal resilience by 2027. This will augment our current program focus on the wonders of the Kennebec Estuary.

Engage adults, families, and children throughout KELT's region in educational programs throughout the year.

  • Deliver free public educational programs once a month that lean into the specific wonders in the Kennebec Estuary (e.g. fish migration in spring, clamming in summer).

  • Design and deliver programming that is inclusive of all ages, abilities, and identities to encourage broad participation and an appropriate learning environment.

  • Prioritize fun and engaging education programs and events that serve our local communities in the KELT service area, work with local partners, and build understanding and appreciation of our conservation areas.

  • Add accessible water-based or shoreline activities to our events calendar to get people out into the estuary by 2028.

  • Support local high quality, affordable summer opportunities that provide accessible outdoor education to families in our community on an annual basis.

Deliver fun and engaging events to the public that bring together our current supporters and inspire new community members to join the KELT mission.

  • Deliver ticketed events throughout the seasons that highlight local farms, makers, and small business owners in the estuary.

  • Facilitate at least one large membership event a year to engage current and new donors alike (e.g. Annual Meeting, Trail Challenge, Open House).

  • Explore new partnerships to deliver events together that highlight the strengths of our community and neighbors.

  • Work with local partners on an annual basis for education delivery and community events, maintaining long time connections and encouraging new creative endeavors.

  • Respond thoughtfully with an intake system to all KELT inquiries with an understanding of our seasonal and staff capacity to complete projects in a professional and timely way by 2026.

  • Create a staffing plan by 2027 that allows for co-instruction in the field and allows us to serve students consistent and quality programming year over year. Harness the knowledge of teachers and local volunteers to strengthen programs.

  • Increase our annual Education fund to $200,000 by 2030.

Build KELT's communication strategy to engage our members and potential new supporters in lasting and meaningful ways.
