Learn the tips and tricks to build a great trail!
When: Thursday, June 15 at 2:00pm - 5:00pm
Where: Thorne Head Preserve in Bath
Join Preserves Manager, Dillon Mulhern, to learn techniques of how to scout, plan, and construct long-lasting trails for the enjoyment of walkers, bikers, birders, and more. This free event is suitable for novice trial builders 12 years old and older.
Thorne Head Preserve is located at the northern end of High Street in Bath and will serve as an excellent outdoor classroom. Participants will meet Mulhern in the preserve parking area and then progress to different locations in the preserve to gain hands on experience with the various aspects of sustainable trail construction. From observing the landscape and preventing erosion to understanding water redirection and protecting sensitive habitat, there is more to laying out a trail than just clearing away ground vegetation. Mulhern will also demonstrate how to build the most common trail infrastructure, namely trail bridges and water bars.
Arrive ready to get your hands dirty! Wear clothing and footwear suitable for outdoor work in the woods. Bring a water bottle and bug spray (it’s tick season!).
