Enjoy the beauty of trails this winter!
Hiking in the winter is well worth the extra layers. Winter is here and the trails are covered with a fresh blanket of snow. Bundle up with us and take a walk at any of the preserves listed below!
All of KELT's trails are open in the winter!
Here is a list of our preserves where parking lots are plowed:
Lilly Pond Community Forest in Bath
Green Point Preserve in West Bath
Red Rose Preserve in Bowdoinham
Merrymeeting Fields Preserve in Woolwich
Morse Pond Preserve in Georgetown
Barbara and Carl Segerstrom Preserve at Squam Creek on Westport Island
A few helpful reminders before you take to the snowy trails:
Dress like an onion...in layers!
Start small & early...plan a route of reasonable distance and difficulty. Remember: the sun sets early.
Bring safety gear...including a fully charged cell phone, trail map, a first aid kit, a compass, hand warming packets, and a headlamp.
Check the weather...Maine is notorious for quickly changing conditions! Check out the forecast for then entire day.
Wear suitable footwear...will you be hiking on snow, ice, rock, mud?
