Our Vision

To maintain and improve KELT’s preserves and easements for their conservation and community values through intentional exemplary stewardship practices.

Stewardship secures and maintains the conservation values of KELT's preserves and easements with the promise of perpetuity at the forefront, while also maintaining and improving the ecological values of KELT's conserved land and promoting the same throughout the estuary. The health of our land is crucial for the well-being of our community. Your everyday actions on KELT properties help to steward the land, now and for future generations.

Recreation Management

We sustainably manage public access and visitation to our preserves.

We maintain, improve, and build trails and other public access features that protect the ecological resources from projected increase in visitor use and climate change impacts. We manage trails in order to increase accessibility to the land, while directing people to a singular path to allow for the preservation of ecologically significant places.

Ecological Management

We work with qualified natural resource professionals to inventory the natural communities found on our preserves and easements.

Our top stewardship priority is to protect the ecological resources found in the area (exemplary natural communities, rare plants, tidal waterfowl, wading bird habitat, etc). We work with Maine Natural Areas Program and other qualified natural resource professionals to inventory the natural communities found on our preserves and easements.

Invasive Species

Non-native species threaten the biodiversity of ecologically important areas. By controlling these invasive species, we protect the unique ecological value of the land.

Boundary & Ownership Integrity

We care for the land, and invite others to do the same!

We maintain ownership integrity and address any concerns through annual monitoring, as well as delineating and marking boundaries.
