Led by Land & Stewardship Director Andrew Morgan, this stewardship project will not only aid us in the long-term maintenance of Thorne Head’s trails, it will also contribute to the overall sustainability of the forest! In recent years, Eastern hemlock trees have been severely affected by an invasive insect known as Hemlock woolly adelgid that lives on the tree’s needles and deprives them of nutrients. Thorne Head’s forest now contains many dead or dying hemlock trees, and we need your help to haul them from the woods and prepare them so that they can be utilized for trail stabilization, bridge work, and more.
