Strap on your snowshoes and join Kennebec Estuary Land Trust for a (hopefully!) snowy walk at Center Point Preserve as part of Bowdoinham’s Ice & Smelt Festival
2/16/2022 Event Update: We will most likely be using ice spikes, not snowshoes, unless there is a weather miracle in the next few days! See you soon!
Center Point Preserve was recently conserved by Maine Coast Heritage Trust and is in the process of being transferred to KELT which will serve as its long-term steward.
We’ll snowshoe down to the point and back, stopping along the way to admire winter trees, birds, and views of Merrymeeting Bay. We’ll also discuss KELT’s newest citizen science project – smelt monitoring! Our route will follow Center Point Road (which is mostly flat with a couple hills) and a moderately-hilly natural surface trail around the point itself. The total distance is approximately 3.5 miles roundtrip.
The leader will be on snowshoes, but if cross-country skis are more your thing, we welcome you to join in the fun too! Extra snowshoes will be available to borrow (or ice spikes if the snow fails us). This event is limited to 12 people due to COVID and registration is required.
For more information and to sign-up, please email KELT’s Land & Stewardship Director, Tenley Wurglitz (twurglitz@kennebecestuary.org).
