A Word from KELT on COVID-19
Dear KELT Supporters,
The Kennebec Estuary Land Trust has been monitoring the evolving COVID-19 (Coronavirus) situation. Here are a few items our staff and Board want you to know:
KELT's preserves will remain open and free to visit from dawn until dusk. If you are feeling cooped up inside, spending time outside will help to reduce stress and burn pent-up energy... all while providing space for social distancing.
Guidelines for visits to preserves & trails
Find the Right Time and Place:
Visit a preserve or trail close to your home.
Visit websites to see the latest information on closures or conditions. Please respect all property closures.
Have a plan B... if the parking lot is full, the destination is too crowded.
Avoid peak times.
Don't forget...you can recharge in your backyard and neighborhood.
Be Prepared Before Heading Out
Plan ahead...Facilities like public restrooms are likely closed.
Pack snacks and water to avoid having to make stops.
Wear/bring appropriate gear to match the conditions. Trails may be wet, muddy, slippery, or icy in springtime.
Stick to easier terrain to avoid injuries.
Ticks are out and about! Wear light-colored pants, closed-toe shoes, and use bug repellent.
Heed All COVID-19 Health Warnings
Social distance: Stay at least six feet away from other people who do not live in your household. And remember no groups of 10 or more people!
Don’t linger: Shorten your stay when visiting natural stopping points so everyone can enjoy them while maintaining a safe distance.
Don’t touch: Avoid touching signs, kiosks, buildings, and benches to minimize the potent spread of the virus.
If you’re sick, stay home!
All public events are postponed until further notice in the interests of public health and following guidance from local, state and federal authorities. The safety and security of our community, visitors, volunteers, and staff is our highest priority. Any updates or changes will be posted to KELT's website.
Our staff will post activity ideas for families to keep active minds learning and exploring. KELT educators have collected a variety of resources over the years: games, scavenger hunts, and more that we'd love to share with you. Follow KELT on Facebook and Instagram to view links, pictures, observations and to share your own!
Our staff are balancing time between the office and working remotely on a rotating basis. During this time, we ask that all non-staff visits be coordinated in advance as we do our best to ensure the well-being of our community.
We are so grateful to be a part of your community and provide, even in a small way, respite from this unfortunately stressful, new reality. Please call our office 207-442-8400 or email with any questions and visit kennebecestuary.org for the latest updates.
Thank you for your understanding,
Carrie Kinne
Executive Director
Now more than ever, your financial support is vital in maintaining our preserves, trails, and all on-going efforts.
