Join KELT to explore a preserve and learn about animals in winter!
When: Thursday, December 15 at 9:30am
Where: Merrymeeting Fields in Woolwich
We’ll meet at Merrymeeting Fields Preserve in Woolwich to take a walk and learn how animals in Maine survive the winter months. The trail meanders through woods and open fields, out to the shoreline of Merrymeeting Bay and back (~1 mi round trip).
Even in the dead of winter, the natural world is brimming with activity! Maine has very few animals that are true hibernators, or animals that spend winter in a dormant state. Many of the creatures thought to be hidden away for the coldest parts of the year are still active to find food, water, and even mates. Join us to discover how these creatures survive to coldest months of the year!
