Join KELT to explore a preserve and build winter animal shelters!
When: Thursday, february 9 at 9:30 am - 11:30 AM
Where: segerstrom preserve on westport island
Bring your little ones to meet Emily from KELT at the beautiful Segerstrom Preserve on Westport Island to learn how to build animal shelters in the winter months, and then take a walk along Jeremy’s Ramble trail to a viewpoint of the tidal salt marsh.
Do you ever wonder where animals sleep in the winter, and how they build their beds? We'll begin our forest playgroup with a story, and spend our first thirty minutes building shelters from local materials like sticks, bark, and maybe even snow! The second hour will be an open walk along the Jeremy's Ramble Trail, about .5 miles to the viewpoint, and .5 miles back to the field. Building shelters in the cold can be tough for small fingers, so bring mittens, gloves, and maybe something to warm up hands afterward. If it is wintery enough, there is a great small sledding hill to take advantage of. This program is designed for ages 2-5, but all participants welcome to explore.
