Beginner Birder: An Introduction to Birding Apps

Anna!

Join KELT volunteer and birding enthusiast Anna Christie-Carnicella for an exciting and interactive program on birding phone applications. This is a program designed for beginner birders!

When: saturday, may 11 at 8:30 am

Where:meet at KELT office in bath (872 washington st) and move to thorne head preserve in bath

The program will start at the KELT office at 872 Washington St. in Bath and will conclude with a short stroll at the Thorne Head Preserve. At KELT's office, Christie-Carnicella will lead participants through the process of downloading and configuring the Merlin Bird ID and eBird applications, both from the Cornell Lab of Ornithology, before discussing how to best use both in the field. Participants will then head to the Thorne Head Preserve in Bath to try out the applications in the field. We'll watch and listen carefully--keeping an eye and ear out for migrants that are still passing through--and learn something along the way!

Anna Christie-Carnicella worked for KELT from 2016 to 2023 in development and land protection. She continues to stay involved as a volunteer preserve steward while she attends graduate school full-time and raises her two daughters with her spouse in Bowdoin. She began birding in college when she took her first ornithology class and continued (VERY casually) as she moved around the Midwest and Northeast before settling in Maine about ten years ago. She loves introducing new birders to the activity and helping to foster that connection to the natural world.

Advance registration is required. Register via the form below! Participants will need to arrange transportation between the KELT office and the Thorne Head Preserve in Bath.

Organized by Kennebec Estuary Land Trust.
